So, šš¾šš¾ hear me out!
As of right now the fashion content is sitting in the Lookbook, waiting to be explored in order to trigger evolution. Today, It's a curation of outfits, styles, colour palettes and more that serve to inspire the viewer on how to put the things that they already own, together as well as inspo for how to build a future-proofed wardrobe. Tomorrow, I hope that it will be filled with my own photography of both established and the up and coming designers. The New Era of style will be publicised, and Miss.Understood will be the home. Mark my words, the Lookbook will be the most trusted publication for style expertise and sustainable fashion connections. The Lookbook feature was actually where the idea for a blog started, as my initial vision was a fashion blog that I was going to call, "Attire.blog".
I know from experience, that there usually is something to wear in the closet. Like our parents used to say as we drove past our favourite fast food restaurant, no need to buy, there is rice at home!
So, in the bid to make sustainable fashion choices and simultaneously upgrade my lifestyle choices, I've outgrown buying items for the sake of an event, subsequently building a wardrobe of cheap-miscellaneous-filler-pieces, with no connection to one another. My three codes of conduct, so far, below:
Quality over quantity at all times, no compromise.
It must fit well, it must be in good condition, it must be made from good material (it's not everyday polyester). And my definers for quality will evolve over time...
A decision made with future in mind.
This means not shopping the trends of today that will soon be outdated and cringe when looking back at photos a year from now. Investing in only what my future self will look back on with pride.
Not buying things that I can't rewear.
Don't get me wrong, if I get invited to the Met Gala, am I going to purchase an item/ outfit that's Met Gala specific? Well yeah, of course I am. But as I enter the season of attending weddings, baby showers, birthday dinners and the occasional work-do, I won't be hopping on the fast fashion sites for a one-time- wear frock. Preloved over next-day-delivery!
I hope through my experiences with thrifting, that I'll be sharing on this blog, you too will fall in love with the ART and I do mean ART of thrifting. Think about it like this: when you thrift, the clothes have truly found you. Like, you've created a mental list of your wants and needs, and as it so happens, someone has donated what you are seeking at that exact time in your life, and then you find it... AND IT'S YOUR SIZE!!!!!!!! It's effing kismet!!!!
An exquisite legal high, if you ask me.
Anywhooo, I'll let you in on something else...
A year ago now, I left my family home and moved into my very own Essex apartment. By far my biggest W of 2024. And although the reason as to why I left is nothing short of a horror story, I thank God everyday for the safe haven we've been able to create here. Having said that, leaving in a tizzy is not something I would recommend. I filled two of my holiday suitcases to the brim with pretty much everything I owned. Pjs, basics, shoes, quality denim jackets and jeans, jumpers, hoodies, coats, accessories, tee-shirts, even the Maniere De Voir dress I bought to wear on my birthday (119 Great British Pounds) and I dragged those suitcases to my nearest British Heart foundation (big up BHF for shopping and donating) and I told the lady that worked there to "take it all".
I'm glad I donated, but it was done out of such angst that I gave no thought to my future wardrobe needs. I just knew in that moment that I needed to be rid of my old-self and anything that was tying me to that chapter of my life
So all in all, I've currently got about two pairs of jeans, and extremely random pieces. I went from being the girl known to always dress well (or put that sh*t on, for my fellow brain rotters), to literally struggling to put a fit together that I can be proud of or feel confident in. Now again, do not get me wrong, I makes it work! But this comes with an intense feeling of being majorly under-qualified in the field I'm so passionate about. Starting a fashion blog with no fashion, go figure!

Now I'm on the road to build my wardrobe from scratch (all whilst paying rent, gulp). I refuse to fall into the capsule wardrobe fad, because that sh*t is boring as hell, sorry to everyone who drank the Kool-Aid. While I watch shows and when out and about in the city, I mentally shop and curate a wardrobe that will take me graciously from my 20s into my 30s whilst maintaining my own style's eye. So, I'm nearly there, I've accepted the immense beauty of rebuilding, and boy will I be oversharing on this blog.
The Lookbook is for me, as much as it is for you! Let's build from scratch/ rebuild a sustainable wardrobe that our younger-selves would swoon over!
